The best yoga teachers are the ones who take care of you the best, says yoga teacher and wellness guru Ram Dass.
He is not a medical doctor, but he does have a PhD in yoga.
“If you’re looking for a good yoga teacher, the top five are: you have a deep and personal connection to your practice; you’re not a person who just wants to do yoga, but you want to give your practice a special identity, a personal story; you understand the needs of your practice and your students; you don’t just talk about what you do; you listen and you share and you work with each other,” he said.
Dass has been leading the way in the field of yoga education since he founded the Center for Yoga Education in 2002.
He has taught over 300,000 yoga classes worldwide.
“When I started, there were just a few hundred yoga teachers.
Today there are around 200,000.
There’s more and more people doing yoga all over the world,” Dass said.
Yoga teachers are experts in their fields, but Dass is also a great advocate for yoga as a lifestyle.
“The yoga culture has changed a lot since the 1970s, and so we are now a more accepting culture, a more tolerant culture,” he added.
“I believe in yoga as an expression of a deep connection with your body.
That connection is important to the health of your body and of your soul.”
He also believes that the best teachers in yoga teach in a loving way, which is something that many people who are passionate about yoga are missing.
“Yoga is about connection, connection is about feeling connected to the earth and the universe,” he explained.
“It’s about connecting to all of life.
It’s about being able to take care with your life, and I think that’s something that we can all share.”
